He was born in Wood County, Virginia on 1 December 1811 and grew up there. As a young man, he moved to Highland County, Ohio and was married there to Miss Polly H. Gillan; they had 6 children. She died when about 35 y. In 1853 with his family he came to Emmet Twp., this county and he lived here since with the exception of a few years in Iowa. About 1855 he married Miss Mary Bice; they had 4 children. She was killed by lightening while in her home in the the 3rd ward of this city in the summer of 1881 or 1882. Since then, the deceased has made his home with his son. The funeral will be tomorrow from the son's home near the 4th ward schoolhouse."

In 1817 she came to Highland county with her parents where she resided untill March 1882 when she moved to Kansas. She joine the M. E. Church when 10 years of age and remained a member ulntil her marriage to Silas Lupton in September, 1840. He was a member of the Friend's Church and she moved her membership to that church. She was twice married and the mother of nine children, five of whom are still living. at Hillsboro, Highland County, Ohio.1 |
